How to Truly Recharge on the Weekend as an Entrepreneur

Some weekends go past in a blur. I didn’t do anything relaxing. I didn’t accomplish anything important. I didn’t really even enjoy myself.

Other weekends feel life-giving and I start the next week feeling refreshed, recharged, and excited to work!

There’s one big difference between these two kinds of weekends and it’s something that happens before the weekend even starts:

✨Setting my intentions.✨

Those life-giving, glorious weekends happen when I decide by Friday afternoon how I want to spend my time and energy.

If you want to set your intentions for the this coming weekend, here are 4 things to think about:

#1: SCREEN TIME.

For me, this makes the biggest difference of all.

I plan ahead of time what I want to use my phone for and how much Hulu I want to watch.

  • I might decide to only use my phone for texting with friends and family, but stay off social media completely.
  • I might decide to leave my phone plugged in next to my bed all weekend.
  • I might decide to play Best Fiends on my phone until I have a headache.

It doesn’t matter what the plan is. It’s all about choosing what you want to do on purpose.

#2: ME TIME.

Next I think about what I need the most. It might be reading, painting, hiking, napping, journaling, organizing, etc.

If I think about this ahead of time, I can ponder what I’d really benefit from the most and make time for that.

#3: CHORES.

I like to start a fresh week with our meal plan figured out and groceries purchased, so that’s a non-negotiable for me each weekend.

There are usually a few other random house chores that I will set the intention of doing.

#4: CONNECTION.

Lastly, I think about how I want to connect with others. I might plan to video chat with my brother in Wisconsin, play video games with my husband, hike with my mom, or catch up with a friend.

When I set this intention, I’m much more likely to make it happen.

If you want to set your intentions for this weekend, ask yourself these 4 questions:

  1. How much do I want to be staring at a screen and for what?
  2. What do I need most this weekend for me?
  3. What would feel good to get done?
  4. How can I connect with my favorite people this weekend?

As an entrepreneur, your business takes on the energy that you bring to it. This makes it important that you truly recharge.

And this isn’t just about time — because I know you’ve had weekends where you didn’t work, but you definitely didn’t relax. It’s all about being intentional with your time off.

Asking yourself these four questions before the weekend even starts will help you think through how you want to spend your time and energy so that you can get what you need most out of your downtime.
